Choosing a wedding photographer can feel almost as important as the wedding itself! If you are a little worried about making sure you are choosing the right person to beautifully capture your wedding day, then this article is for you!
Here are some of the most important questions to ask your photographer in your enquiry call and in the lead up to your big day!
Can I see some of your full galleries from previous wedding days?
This is CRUCIAL! On Instagram, we only see the best of the best that a photographer has to offer, but what about what their galleries look like in changing light conditions throughout a wedding day? This gives you a clearer picture of what you can expect from them
Tell us about how you pose/prompt couples during the portrait session
Do you want plenty of direction during your portrait session, or none at all? The answer to this question will give you an idea of what to expect from your photographer and also give you an opportunity to share your preferred direction for posing and prompting.
What backups are part of your process?
Find out how they are storing photos and what the options look like if they have an accident and can't make it to your wedding day. Do they also use gear with 2 memory cards and have backup cameras/lenses? This is super NB!
Having all your bases covered helps reduce that wedding day stress a ton!
What payment options are available?
Getting really clear on the amount they expect you to pay and when is the best way to avoid having an awkward conversation about money on your wedding day. Most photographers will require a 50% booking deposit with the remainder due 7 days before the wedding.
Could you describe your photography style?
This is fun one and the answer could either be the final tick in your photographer criteria checklist, or reveal something about how the photographer works that makes them a less suitable choice for your wedding day.
If their descriptions sound like how you want your wedding day to look and feel… book them!
Are the packages flexible?
If you really like the look of their full day photo package but don’t see an option to have the vows video-recorded or a coffee table album added, ask them about the possibility of adding these to the package to make sure it covers your needs.
Similarly, if you only want 1 photographer on the wedding day instead of 2, ask them what the possibility of reducing this from the package is and what the pricing implications of that are.
Let's get you booked!
Armed with these questions, you should have nothing holding you back from finding the right photographer for your needs and having your special day captured in the style you always dreamed of! Remember to bring up these questions in your photographer booking call and keep an ear out for how they respond.
